The consultation: how it usually runs, the consent form, and what to ask

Consultations in Seoul can move quickly. Knowing the usual order, and having your questions written down, makes it easier to slow things to your pace.

A common order of events

Details vary by clinic, but a visit often follows a similar pattern.

  • Reception and a health questionnaire, sometimes on a tablet
  • Photos or a skin analysis device scan
  • A talk with a coordinator about your goals and budget
  • The doctor's examination and recommendation
  • A written or on-screen quote, then a decision
  • Treatment the same day or on another day, if you choose

The consent form

The consent form records what will be done, the expected course and the possible side effects. If the form is in Korean, ask for an English version or ask for each section to be explained before you sign.

Read the treatment name, the product or device, the quantity, the expected redness or swelling, and what to do if something unexpected happens. Take a photo of the signed form for your records.

Questions to bring

Write these on your phone and tick them off during the visit.

  • What do you see on my skin, and what would you suggest first?
  • Which device or product would you use, and how much of it?
  • How many sessions are usually planned, and how far apart?
  • What will my skin look like on the day I fly home?
  • What should I avoid afterwards, and for how long?
  • Who do I contact if I have a question after I leave Korea?

Saying "not today"

You can leave with a written plan and quote and decide later. If you feel rushed, or the explanation did not come across clearly, that is a reasonable moment to pause.

Consultation: common questions

Will I see the doctor or only a coordinator?

A doctor should examine you before any medical treatment. Ask for the doctor's name, and whether the same doctor performs the procedure.

Can I record the consultation?

Ask first. Some clinics allow audio notes; others prefer you write down the key points. A written summary of the plan is a good alternative.

What if the plan changes on the treatment day?

Ask why, and ask for the revised plan and quote in writing before you agree.
