miraDry
miraDry uses microwave thermolysis for underarm sweat. Here is how to ask about the device, sessions, and recovery in English.
How it works
miraDry is a device that uses microwave energy to heat and disable sweat glands in the underarm. The method is called microwave thermolysis. Cooling protects the skin surface while the energy reaches the glands below. Because sweat glands do not regenerate in the same way, the reduction is described as long-lasting for many people, but it varies. Hair in the area may also be reduced. Local anesthesia is used.
Good to know
- The treated area is mapped and numbed with injections first.
- Swelling and soreness can last days to a couple of weeks.
- Temporary numbness or tingling can occur in the arm or underarm.
- Sweat reduction does not apply to other body areas.
Asking about miraDry in English
Ask the coordinator to confirm that the device is miraDry, and to explain whether the plan is one session or two. Share any history of sweating, medicines, and implants such as a pacemaker, because these affect suitability.
Ask the doctor what to expect on the first days: swelling, bruising, and arm movement. Request written aftercare, including when you can exercise, lift, and shave. Ask what to do if numbness or pain does not improve, and how to reach the clinic from abroad.
miraDry: common questions
Does miraDry stop sweating completely?
Not for everyone. Many people see less underarm sweat, but results vary.
Is it painful?
Local anesthesia is used. You may feel pressure, and soreness follows.
Can I fly soon after?
Ask the doctor. Swelling and arm discomfort can make travel less comfortable.
