HIFU Lifting
HIFU lifting uses focused ultrasound to heat tissue below the skin surface. Some people choose it for mild to moderate sagging along the jawline or neck. This page covers what to tell the doctor and what to ask before you book.
How it works
A handheld device sends focused ultrasound through the skin and into set depths of tissue. The heat is delivered in tiny points and may prompt a gradual tightening response over the following weeks to months. Different devices use different depths and pulse patterns, so the plan depends on the machine and your face. Results vary by person, and some people see little change.
Who it may suit
- Mild to moderate looseness along the jawline or neck
- Early softening of the lower face contour
- People who prefer no cuts and little time off
- A repeat visit every year or so, if you and the doctor decide it helps
The treatment day
- Consultation and marking. The doctor looks at your face from several angles and agrees which areas to treat. Ask for the plan in writing or on a screen you can photograph.
- Cleansing and numbing. Your skin is cleaned and numbing cream may be applied. Say if you have had trouble with numbing products before.
- Treatment passes. The doctor moves the device over marked zones. You may feel heat, snapping or deep aching. Tell the team right away if it is too much.
- Aftercare handout. You receive instructions for the days that follow. Ask for a copy in English before you leave.
Aftercare
- Gentle cleansing and plain moisturizer for the first few days
- Daily sunscreen once the skin feels comfortable
- Skip very hot saunas and strenuous exercise for a day or two if advised
- Take photos if swelling or bruising appears so you can share them with the clinic
- Message the clinic if a numb patch or a tender lump lasts longer than expected
Things to know first
- Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising can occur
- Rare reports include temporary numbness or weakness in a small area of the face
- Not usually advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Tell the doctor about facial implants, metal, pacemakers or active skin infection in the area
- Very heavy sagging may need a different approach, and the doctor may say so
Talking through HIFU lifting in English
Tell the doctor which fillers or threads you have had and roughly when. Bring the dates if you can, because the plan may change with them. Also mention blood thinners, recent facial surgery and any past nerve problems in the face.
Useful questions are which depths the device will use, how many passes are planned, and when changes might show. You can also ask what you should expect to feel during the pass and what to do if the feeling is sharp.
Words that may come up include jawline, submental area, shot count and energy level. Ask the coordinator or doctor to explain any term you do not know, and ask for written aftercare and a way to send photos after you fly home.
HIFU Lifting: common questions
Can I get a consultation in English before I book?
Many clinics offer message-based pre-consults in English, but it varies. Ask who will be in the room during the exam and whether an interpreter is available.
How long until I might see a change?
Some people notice a change after several weeks, and others see little. The doctor can explain the timeline for your own face.
Can I fly home right after treatment?
Downtime is usually small, but tenderness or swelling can occur. Ask the doctor about your own travel dates and what to watch for on the plane.
Will I need another session?
Some people repeat treatment after many months. Whether that makes sense depends on your response, and the doctor can tell you after an exam.
