Microwave Lifting (ONDA)

Microwave lifting uses microwave energy to warm tissue below the surface while the skin surface is cooled. People ask about it for early looseness or small areas of stubborn fat. You can use this page to prepare what to say and what to ask.

How it works

A handpiece delivers microwave energy that heats deeper tissue, with surface cooling to protect the skin. The heat may cause tissue to tighten and may affect fat cells in the treated area. The depth and settings depend on the area. Because it is one technology among several, a doctor may suggest another option if your concern does not fit it. Responses vary by person.

Who it may suit

  • Early sagging beneath the chin and at the jaw edge
  • Small pockets of fat that feel firm and resistant
  • People who prefer minimal downtime
  • Those happy to attend a short series of visits

The treatment day

  1. Assessment. The doctor pinches and examines the area to judge laxity versus fat. Ask which of the two the plan is aimed at.
  2. Marking. The treatment area may be outlined. Photograph the plan if allowed.
  3. Treatment. The handpiece glides over the skin with cooling. You may feel warmth or brief heat spikes.
  4. Review. Ask for aftercare in writing and the suggested timing of the next visit.

Aftercare

  • Gentle skincare and sunscreen
  • Drink water and avoid very hot environments for the first day if advised
  • Do not rub or massage the area unless the doctor says so
  • Photograph any swelling, bumps or numbness and send them to the clinic
  • Keep the follow-up timing in your calendar, including time zones if you fly home

Things to know first

  • Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur
  • Numb or tingling patches have been reported and usually settle, but tell the clinic if they persist
  • Not advised in pregnancy, or with implants or active infection in the area
  • Results vary and may be subtle, so ask what change is realistic for you
  • It is not a replacement for surgery when significant excess skin is present

Talking through microwave lifting in English

Explain what bothers you in plain words, for example loose skin under the chin or a firm fat pad. Point to the area and use a photo. The doctor may find a different term for it, such as submental fullness.

Ask what the device is designed to do, how many visits are suggested and why. Ask what to do if the area feels numb or sore after you travel. If a term like cooling setting or pulse count comes up, ask the coordinator for a simple explanation.

Tell the doctor about medicines, metal implants, pregnancy plans and past skin reactions. Request the aftercare notes in English and confirm how to send photos if something looks unusual.

Microwave Lifting (ONDA): common questions

Is microwave lifting the same as HIFU or RF?

No. They use different energy types. The doctor can explain how each differs for your concern, and ask for the comparison in English.

Will it hurt?

Many people feel warmth, and some feel brief sharper heat. Tell the team if it is more than you expect.

How many sessions are typical?

Often 1 to 3, but it varies. The doctor decides after an exam.

Can I exercise afterward?

Ask your doctor. Light activity is often fine, but guidance varies, so get it in writing.
