Juvelook (PDLLA)

Juvelook is a brand name that visitors often see on Korean clinic menus. It contains poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA) together with hyaluronic acid. It is placed in the skin to improve texture rather than to build shape, so the questions to ask are different from those for a regular filler.

How it works

Tiny amounts are injected in the skin layers, often across the cheeks or other areas of concern. The PDLLA particles may prompt the body to produce collagen over time, while the hyaluronic acid component adds some hydration. Visible change builds over weeks and usually needs several sessions about a month apart. It is often discussed for fine lines, enlarged-looking pores and some acne scars, though response varies by person. The effect fades gradually and the treatment can be repeated as the doctor advises.

Who it may suit

  • Skin that looks thin, rough or slightly crepey
  • Enlarged-looking pores and mild texture changes
  • Some shallow acne scars, as part of a broader plan
  • People who prefer a gradual, skin-quality treatment

The treatment day

  1. Skin assessment. The doctor looks at texture, scars and thickness and explains whether this suits your goal.
  2. Numbing cream. Numbing cream is applied and left to work for a time.
  3. Micro-injections. The product is placed in many small points across the treatment area.
  4. Soothing and advice. The skin is cooled and cleaned, and you receive aftercare and a schedule for the next session.

Aftercare

  • Do not rub the face for the first day, and wash gently.
  • Avoid makeup for several hours unless the doctor allows it.
  • Skip saunas, intense exercise and facials for a few days.
  • Use sunscreen and plain skincare while small marks fade.
  • Take dated photos to compare after each session.

Things to know first

  • Redness, small bumps, pinpoint bruises and tenderness are common for a few days.
  • Lumps or nodules can occur, as with other lactic acid products, and may need follow-up.
  • Infection and allergic reactions are possible but uncommon.
  • Not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with active infection or skin disease at the site, or with keloid scarring.
  • Results are gradual and vary by person. Several sessions are often needed.

Talking through Juvelook in English

Names on menus can confuse. Ask the doctor to explain in simple English what the product contains and what it is meant to do. Say your goal in your own words, for example smoother skin, smaller-looking pores, or softer acne marks, and ask whether this treatment is a reasonable match or whether another option fits better.

Ask how many sessions are planned and how far apart. If you are only in Seoul for a short time, ask what part can be done now and what you can reasonably do on a return visit. Ask which areas will be treated and whether any step may leave visible marks for a few days. Ask for the schedule in writing.

Tell the doctor about keloids, skin conditions, allergies and recent treatments. Terms you may hear: PDLLA, biostimulator, skin quality, nodule and micro-injection. Keep the product name and your photos, so a doctor at home can understand what you had.

Juvelook (PDLLA): common questions

Is Juvelook a filler?

It is used for skin quality rather than shape. It is placed in the skin itself instead of deeper layers.

How many sessions might I need?

Often a few, about a month apart. The doctor decides based on your skin.

Will I see results before I fly home?

Probably not. Change builds over weeks, so plan to judge it at home with photos.

Can it treat deep scars?

Deep scars often need other methods. Ask whether this is suitable for your scar type.
