Glossary: words you will meet on Korean price lists and forms

Korean clinic menus and forms use a handful of terms again and again. Here is what they usually mean, with the Korean so you can recognise or point to it.

How to use it

Meanings can differ slightly between clinics. When a term affects what you pay or what is done to your skin, ask the clinic to explain how they use it.

Shot · 샷
One pulse of energy from a device such as an ultrasound or radiofrequency machine. Quotes often state a number of shots; the same number on different devices is not directly comparable.
cc
Cubic centimetre, the volume of an injectable such as a filler or skin booster. One cc is one millilitre.
Session · 회
One treatment visit. A price per session and a price for several sessions are often listed side by side.
Area · 부위
The part of the face or body being treated, for example forehead, jaw or full face. What one area covers can vary.
Regular price · 정상가
The clinic's standard listed price for an item.
Event price · 이벤트가
A promotional price, often for a limited time, a set quantity or a specific product.
First-visit price · 첫방문가
A price offered only on a person's first visit to that clinic.
Package · 패키지
Several sessions or treatments sold together, usually paid up front.
VAT excluded · 부가세 별도
The listed amount does not yet include value added tax, which is added at payment.
VAT included · 부가세 포함
The listed amount already includes value added tax.
Deposit · 예약금
An amount paid in advance to hold a booking. Ask how it is handled if you cancel or change dates.
Coordinator / consultation manager · 상담실장 · 코디네이터
A staff member who explains options, prices and scheduling. Not a doctor.
Director · 원장
Title used for a doctor who runs or practises at the clinic.
Dermatology specialist · 피부과 전문의
A doctor with specialist training in dermatology. Ask the clinic for the treating doctor’s name and specialist credentials; a website label alone is not verification.
Numbing cream · 마취크림
A topical anaesthetic applied before some treatments. Ask whether it is included in the quote.
Downtime · 다운타임
The period after treatment when skin may look red, swollen or crusted, or when some activities are paused.
Touch-up · 리터치
A follow-up session to adjust a result. Ask whether it is included and within what time.
Follow-up visit · 재진
A return visit after the first consultation or treatment.
Consent form · 동의서
The document you sign before treatment, describing the procedure and its possible side effects.
Medical receipt · 진료비 영수증
The receipt for medical fees. An itemised statement (진료비 세부내역서) lists each item separately.

Glossary: common questions

Why do some menus mix English and Korean?

Device and product names are often brand names written in English letters, while units and conditions are in Korean. Ask for the full item to be written out if anything is unclear.

Is a shot count a measure of strength?

No. It counts pulses. Energy level, tip and technique also matter, and differ between devices.

What if a term on my quote is not listed here?

Ask the clinic to write out what the item includes in full: the product, the quantity and whether VAT is added. A clear written line is worth more than any glossary.
